There is a lot of mystery that surrounds the original meaning of Valentine’s Day. There could be as many as three different people called St. Valentine. The holiday is most often associated with a priest from the third century. Claudius III was in power at the time and believed that single men made better soldiers – so the emperor decided to pass an edict forbidding young men to marry. Tradition says that Valentine refused to follow the emperor’s edict, and performed many marriages. When Claudius III found out about Valentine’s disregard for his law, he had the priest captured, placed in prison and eventually killed. Another tradition states that while Valentine was in prison he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter, wrote her a note and signed it, “Love from your Valentine.”
I’m not sure where tradition parts with truth but the story has been popular. Each February more than 250 million valentines are given away in celebration of love, friendship and family. But what if God sent those he loved a Valentine?
This is a Valentine to you from the One who loves you with a perfect, eternal love. He is your Heavenly Father, your Creator. There is no one who would want to say “I love you” today more than God. So what is God’s Valentine message to you today? Enjoy reading his expressions of love for you, and consider passing them on to others who need to know how much they are loved and cared about on this special day.
Dear one, I have loved you since the moment you were created. I have loved watching you grow and become strong and thoughtful. I want you to know that my love for you never wavers. I could not love you more, even when your mistakes come between us. Though I cannot bless those choices, my love for you remains constant. I don’t love you more when you are walking closely with me and I don’t love you less when you wander away. My love is a perfect love, and it does not change. I will love you forever. When you accepted my Son, Jesus, as your Lord you became my adopted child – forever a part of my family. There will always be a place for you in my Kingdom. There will always be a place for you in my heart. Remember that I am love and I can never be less. Enjoy your position as my child, a child of the King, and look forward with joy to all that awaits you. You deserve to know, all the time, that you are greatly and steadfastly loved.
Don’t confuse my love with the love of anyone else. Some of my children receive great love in their lives but others are disappointed by those they love. Always be convinced of my love for you. Nothing can remove my love from your life. You will gain and lose love from people, some will stay and others will choose to withdraw. I am always going to be there, ready to pour my love into your heart and life. No one is more powerful than I am, therefore no one is capable of separating my love from you. Others may withdraw their love from you, I never will. When you chose to love Jesus and make him your Lord, you received the constant Presence of my love with you. I love you with the same love my Son has given you. We have given you all we are, so that one day you can be all you will become. Nothing can separate you from your place in heaven and your place in my heart. If you ever doubt my love for you, remember Jesus. We couldn’t love you more.
and he loves everyone the way he loves you.”
